My name is Laura, and I just turned 40. Well, six months ago I turned 40, but I’m still adjusting! I’ve noticed some creaking in my knees and am now supposed to get mammograms, so I feel like I’ve crossed a major divide, here.
The problem is, I don’t really feel like I have my life together yet. I’m still figuring things out! The plan I had for my life at age 18 went by the wayside with a divorce and a career shift. That’s all for the best, but I’ve been running without a plan through my 30s. Now I’m looking around me wondering, “Is this what I want my life to look like?”
In many ways it is, but I’m also discovering things that I’d like to work on. This blog is about my effort to create intentionality about how I spend my time and can learn to adult better (Wait–I’m supposed to clean behind the refrigerator?)
Getting My Midlife in Order
There are several areas of my midlife that I’d like to work on. This includes things like:
- Managing distractions and maintaining focus on what’s important
- Getting a handle on my weight and fitness so I can live healthy and happy into old age
- Keeping my house clean and organized, despite my natural pile-making tendencies
- Working on depression and anxiety so that I don’t miss day-to-day moments
- Intentionally spending time on things I love (books, writing, walks, and family time)
- Succeeding at work, too, because I love what I do
How Exactly Am I Going to Do This?
I love school. I’m a little mad that I graduated (I’ve got two master’s degrees, and I wonder…should I go back for more?). I plan to put all those research skills to good use as I work in all these areas of life. And I’m sure I’m not alone, so I hope that you’ll learn a little (and laugh with me a bit, too) as I read, write, and bumble my way to an intentional life.
